Dan Carney, member of alt-folk group Dark Captain, goes solo under his new Astronauts moniker with an album on Lo Recordings. Hollow Ponds is a release of dream-inducing and gentle pop, full of delicate minor key detailing and showing off some true songwriting talent. The drums blend in subtly on 'Skydiving', Carney’s repetitive falsetto vocals, the ceaseless ukulele arpeggio and rich cello notes reminiscent of the genre’s Swedish masters Junip, while abstract lyrical play adds to the faraway, warm feel.
