Led by veteran Japanese experimentalist Yoshimi, experimental collective OOIOO return with their seventh album Gamel. As the name suggests, Gamel draws its main source of inspiration from the ancient Javanese music of gamelan, the indigenous style of music native to the Java and Bali regions of Indonesia. Here, Yoshimi and her troupe manage to seamlessly integrate these intriguing percussionist sounds with a range of lo-fi guitars and quirky vocal ad-libs that add to the original avant-garde style.
