Neville Watson knows how to lay down a house groove, and this release on Craig Richards' The Nothing Special is no different. Sensuous bass-lines come up against frivolous synth riffs that hint at the title track's darkness. 'The Raw Fruit' is a deep number, droning yet meaningful synth lines gnawing away as shaking percussion and repeated bass-lines work their magic. It's not without levity, though, as a gorgeously simple upper-register riff drops in at points to brighten the mood. 'Heartstring' sees broken beats fall as they may under searing minor chords and bass thuds in this throwback number.
