Influential experimental musician Mika Vainio – best known for his work as part of Pan Sonic – teams up with accomplished cellist Arne Deforce on the Greek mythology inspired concept album Hephaestus, released through Editions Mego. Hephaestus is a haunting and reflective tour through the depths of ancient Greek mythology that while moody never feels less than vast and expansive. Vainio's minimalistic and emotive electronics mesh beautifully with the raw cello work of Deforce. Deforce comes in sparingly, and the restraint makes the overall effect all the more powerful; this is challenging music of an uncommon and lyrical grandeur.
