Detroit native Kris Wadsworth readies his second full-length release in partnership with his regular outpost Hypercolour. The Popularity LP represents a collection of highly functional, ‘floor friendly tracks that blur the boundaries between house and techno. Quirky vocal chops get things underway on ‘Hypercolour Theme’ before moving onto the squelchy bass of ‘Hot Karl’, which re-appropriates Stockhausen’s cultural murmurings over ripe, big room production. ‘Neo Nasty’ is another 4/4 banger that’s fitted out with humanoid vocals and a hugely infectious mutant melody whereas ‘Mesmerist’ offers a more subdued mood with its sparse drum arrangement and sulking vocal.
