Another gem from the Finders Keepers Disposable Music series. On the A side we have SOS, the latest uncovered work from Polish composer Andrzej Korzynski. Providing the score to an obscure Polish weekly crime show, this collection is cut from the same cloth as contemporary work from the likes of Morricone and Don Ellis. Flutter-tongued flutes, rolling guitar lines, blaring horns and sweeping strings - it's a beautiful find. Flip the record and it's a different story - Awkward Corners, a project of Finders Keepers co-compiler Chris Menist, is a sprawling work that was recorded over a three-year period in Pakistan and Thailand. Collaborating with street musicians and expat jazz legends alike (Ralph Thomas lives permanently in Chiang Mai), Menist creates a tapestry of sound that combines east and west, reverent and secular.
