Legendary Slovenian group Laibach return to the ever-compelling Mute label for a typically bonkers and confrontational new album. ‘Spectre’ sees the group take their most overtly political stance yet. Lead single ‘Resistance is Futile’ is dominated by the kind of monstrous lead vocal which can be achieved by few other groups, though in contrast to the group’s approach to nationalistic song on 2006’s ‘Volk’, there is little irony in the track’s ominous call to arms. Within the political gusto lies a beautiful love song in the form of ‘We Are Millions and Millions Are One’, once more showing that this vital project has the capacity to surprise and surprise again.
