Downliners Sekt add to the stock of shy, environmental takes on dubstep templates for this EP ‘Balt Shakt’, released on French imprint InFine. Much like the duo themselves, the offerings here are characterised by a sense of reclusiveness, with techno and half-step rhythms sunk beneath layers of digital scree and sighing sidechains. Coupled with lilting and unassuming male vocal samples, the EP’s make-up is very much in the lineage of James Blake and Mount Kimbie, the atmosphere resembling more a memory of club music than functional club music itself.
