Light In the Attic Records continue their loving study through the history of Japan’s rich electronic music scene with this deep dive on Tokyo’s beloved ALFA/YEN label. Catering to the label’s fruitful run between 1980 and 1987, this compilation centres on the “techno pop” boom that took place in the capital in the wake of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s international foundational early recordings. Tracks from Ryuichi Sakamoto and YMO themselves are obvious highlights, but deeper cuts from contemporaries like Miharu Koshi and Jun Togawa push the sound to its very limits.
