Before JPEGMAFIA there was simply Devon Hendryx. Released quietly onto Bandcamp under his given name in 2013, the Ghost Pop Tape was JPEG’s first official release after years of tinkering around with music. Slotting more into the alt R&B trends of the day than his now infamously online brand of maximalist hip hop, Ghost Pop nevertheless bears some of his unmistakable instincts and motifs if you listen hard enough. Plus, the Carly Rae Jepsen cover still makes the rounds in JPEGMAFIA setlists to this day. LA’s GODMODE label brings this humble beginning to vinyl for the very first time over a decade after the fact.
