The relationship between GODMODE and up-and-comer Yaeji continues to bear fruit with this five-track EP. The NYC native has a fair bit in common with another GODMODE artist, the much-loved Shamir. Along with both of their drops on the label featuring blurry photos of the respective musicians, there is a clear link between the retro bounce of Shamir’s best work and Yaeji’s streetwise sound. Yaeji’s lackadaisical drawl is the glue that holds together a stylistically varied EP. The versatility of her delivery makes the ghettotech-flecked hip-house of ‘raingurl’ and lo-fi Balearicism of ‘passionfruit’ work in harmony with Kelela-esque joints like ‘drink i’m sippin on’.
