Macedonia-based producer Martin Wood-Mitrovski returns to his NOT_MDK alias for the first time in 23 years to issue the moniker’s third LP entitled The 140 Album. Wood-Mitrovski, who came up in Coventry as part of the Spymania crew that included heavyweights like Squarepusher and Cassette Boy, separated himself from the pack in the 90’s with a free-form approach to genre that saw him chasing sounds as seemingly disparate as pure Detroit techno and screeching death metal, as well as nearly everything else in between. The 140 Album marks both a long-awaited return as well as a massive refinement of process. Fitting somewhat neatly into “grime”, NOT_MDK still delivers a sonically adventurous collection of music here, it’s just (somewhat) easier to categorise this time around.
