Originally released in 1984 as part of a series of cassettes released by Touch, ‘Islands In-between’ was a trailblazing edition of sounds centred around the Indonesian archipelago, in particular the islands of Java and Bali - a musical postcard from two destinations then balancing on a fine line in-between tradition and tourism. We hear the ancient Dag dance music, field recordings from gamelan and ‘Cremation Gamelan’ rituals. A dizzyingly effecting piece of music.... Recommended.
