Jamael Dean is something of a prodigy. Barely into his twenties, the LA pianist/producer has already played with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. All of this stands him in good stead for Black Space Tapes, Dean’s debut release on Stones Throw. The influence of the aforementioned artists can be heard across this record - particularly Washington’s updates of the spiritual lineage of Sun Ra et al.
