While Bog Bodies’ sound is rooted in jazz, the band formed of Robert Stillman, Anders Holst, and Seán Carpio blur the lines of genre with their latest self titled record. The trio explore the “mythologies and magical undercurrents” of the modern era, starting with spectral rotations of saxophone lines in ‘Superman 3 In Our Time’ doing a complete 180 into the visceral metal of the title track, harsh and foreboding with screeching guitar, distorted sax, and drums clashing and pounding. ‘Pater Dreamwalk’ comes down with delicate vocals, and the gargantuan strums of ‘One That Is Reflected…’ are sent deep into space.
