A French musician and visual artist who is as enamored with ambient music’s propensity for auditory representation of architectural beauty as some of the genre’s pioneering greats, Yoann Pisterman comes from a long lineage of artists like Hans Joachim Roedelius, Geinoh Yamashirogumi, Ryuichi Sakamoto and more recently Domenique Dumont. You’d be forgiven for thinking his debut Water Groove is a lost gem from the golden era of electronic innovation. The placid serenity of ‘Western Cheese’ and ‘RFRC Lesmurs’ is belied by the complex and cosmic interplay of percussion and pad-like swells.
