A kind of experimental ambient wunderkind, multidisciplinary artist Lucinda Chua was touring alongside the likes of Stars of the Lid and FKA Twigs while she was barely into her 20s. Antidotes collects the material from two EPs — Antidotes 1 and 2 — and forms a self-reflexive whole album, each side a document of Chua’s journey from 2019 to 2021. Primarily using her voice, a cello and an arsenal of effects units, the development of Chua’s craft follows the bloody-minded through-line of patient atmospherics, as each track’s foggy atmospherics belie Chua’s maze-like structures, drawing ethereal shapes out of droning washes.
