Fresh from turning heads with the MIDI-malfunctions of Dioxippe in 2019, Berlin-based producer Naemi appears once again under their exael moniker and lands on Soda Gong with the fleshy avant-techno fuzz of Flowered Knife Shadows. Unearthly undulations inform the breakneck beat of ‘Koch Metish’, as ‘Quikgel’ ups the bitcrusher rate into fiery crispness. ‘Fig Jelly’ adds another string to exael’s bow by scrubbing the ambient synthesised landscape with intermittent reverb-laden percussion, while chiming keys bob up and down on the glassy surface of ‘Ko’. It’s rare for electronic music to truly feel this organic.
