New album from the Roots sees them getting more synthy and electric but also darker, angrier, heavier, extending the sound of Game Theory into deeper grimier territory, swapping the Rhodes for Analogue keyboards.

It's an aggressive sound here, buried deep in anger, spitting fire. To pull away from the relentlessness of it all there is a bit of colour added from guest mcees, Mos Def, Malik B, Common, Dice Raw and others, but it's always the stern proclamations of Black Thought that hold the tracks together and are the main focus of the album.

This is probably the most politically conscious and stated album of the year, stories written from the point of view of all kinds of positions, all of them troubled.
