In late 1993, two Belgian brothers — Dimitri and Stefan Van Elsen — charted a course that would send them into a spiralling journey into quietly revered, if relatively obscure, techno royalty. As Brain Pilot, the brothers Van Elsen sought out to redistribute the so-called ‘IDM’ sounds of the UK, Detroit and sporadic European scenes across one of its spiritual nation-homes with a slew of LPs between 1994 and 1997. The trouble with becoming a local legend proved to hinder the duo’s wider appeal, and so their heady techno revelry remained unknown outside of Belgium. Kalahari Oyster Cult re-educate the clubbing masses with Cerebral Navigators, a stellar anthology of Brain Pilot’s best and brightest.
