Paula Temple’s done a lot in her career. She’s made plenty of great EPs, run her own label and turned in remixes for the likes of The Prodigy, Peaches and The Knife. She’s toured the world as a DJ and become one of the most respected figures in modern techno. But there’s one thing she hasn’t done - release a full-length album. That is, until now…

Temple says that her debut LP Edge Of Everything was born from twin concerns - it is both the ‘result of years spent ruminating on the healing powers of harsh noise’ and ‘a call to action in desperate times’. She channels this fire into a dozen pieces of emotive, powerful electronics.

Unsurprisingly given what we know, Edge Of Everything is a loud album. The club cuts here barrel out of the speakers with furious intent. Entries like ‘Joshua And Goliath (Techno Version)’, ‘Futures Betrayed’ and ‘Raging Earth’ seem intent on pummelling dancers into submission with their unrelenting Berlin techno beats. Even when the tempos ease up there’s no guarantee of respite - the ‘Slow Version’ of ‘Joshua And Goliath’ packs the space out with frenzied cyberpunk synths, and ambient interludes like ‘Nicole’ are as mournful as they are beautiful.

Edge Of Everything does not provide any respite towards its end - the closing trio of ‘Cages’, ‘Post-Scarcity Anarchism’ and ‘Dimension Jumping’ are as hard as anything else on the record, and the final moments are taken up by an ominous drone. This is a sound as much in contact with the abrasive tones of Einstürzende Neubauten’s first wave as it is with anything currently going down in the clubsphere.

Edge Of Everything sees Temple using all of her talent, knowledge, skill and passion to make a brilliant set of oppositional techno tracks.
