Back before he laid the groundwork for alternative hip hop, Del the Funky Homosapien gained building permission with 1993’s No Need for Alarm. Trading the G-funk flavoured beats of his 1991 debut (produced by his cousin Ice Cube) for a jazz samples and battle rap tactics — “your time is up” Del taunts at the eponymous fakers of ‘Whack M.C.’s’. Even East Coast allegiants will find enough to love in Del’s playful verbal acrobatics.
