Russian jazzer Vladimir Tarasov’s 1990 LP Atto IV gets re-released by Sähkö Recordings (Mika Vainio, Madteo). The single-track experiment here is, in the broadest sense, acid jazz, but the manner in which it hints at everything from dub techno to ambient to new age gives it an indefinable quality. This is a good thing - the gently lilting groove that underpins Atto IV prefigures Biosphere, while the stabs of brass towards the end of the record jar bracingly with the piece’s overall texture in a manner not dissimilar to fellow Sähkö artist Jimi Tenor.
