Originally a jazz and film score composer, Osmo Lindeman turned to the synthesiser in the late 1960s, becoming one of Finland’s pioneering electronic artists. Sähkö Recordings present the first ever collection of these works, a sonic gallery dedicated to the power of early electronic music. Lasering bursts of synths bubble, froth, and foam in starlit arpeggios, rubbing against acoustic instruments as sharp, sparkling ripples are broken by gargantuan low piano chords on ‘Mechanical Music For Stereophonic Tape’, and the dense clouds of brass and steam train horns on ‘Variabile’. These abstractions were even distilled into commercial soundbites, bringing Lindeman’s novel experimentations to the Finnish public and beyond.
