After returning to the fray in 2016 with their first Immersion full-length in seventeen years, Malka Spigel and Colin Newman make good time on the follow-up. However, the relatively short gap between the two LPs doesn’t mean that Sleepless sounds rushed. Indeed, this may be the pair’s most full-blooded and detailed record yet. A strong Krautrock seam runs through Sleepless, with Motorik beats forming the backbone of tracks like ‘Propulsoid’ and ‘MS19’. Atop this Spigel and Newman paint with broad strokes, adding fat basslines and all manner of spiralling synthesizer sounds. Fans of Tangerine Dream and Neu! will find plenty to sink their teeth into here.
