A very interesting release from Still Music here. Label boss Jerome Derradji got wind of a bunch of old house mixes, recorded directly to tape from radio broadcasts in the late 80s, that had been unearthed by a Chicago record dealer. Having snapped them up, he’s proceeded to comb through them and release the cream of the crop as these beautiful limited-run cassettes. ‘J’ and ‘A’ of The Lost Chicago Reels come from local heavyweights Frankie Knuckles and Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley, but ‘C’ and ‘K’ are from a more obscure source. Not much is known of Devastating Daryl, but judging by the mixes on either side of this release we can say for certain that he knew a thing or two about jacking.
