This new series from Jerome Derradji’s Still Music imprint (Basic Soul Unit, Randolph) sees the label fronting some rare gems from the golden age of Chicago house. Both of the sides here are mixes from Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley’ recorded around the time his star was shining brightest. There’s a little fuzz to the tape - understandable, seeing as the recordings had lain dormant since being ripped live off the air in the late 80s - but in a way that adds to their charm, the grainy crackle and static adding to the sort of underground radio vibe. Only 100 of these beautiful cassettes are being made.
