Last Japan’s longest release since the successful Ride With Us mixtape back in 2014 is an EP which has the post-grime pioneer push his sound forward once again. Once again, Last Japan twists the Eski sound-palette into strange new forms here while still keeping one eye on the rave. Tracks like ‘Codes’, ‘Squad’ and ‘U Wot MVIII’ are Eskimo-cold, full of foggy, needling melodies and ominous basslines. The feeling is accentuated by Luna’s only guest - Prynce Mini proves a dexterous MC on ‘Wrong one’, switching between sing-song patois and icy bars like a hybrid of Riko Dan and J Hus. Luna’s opening and closing numbers also see LJ mixing weightless grime with harsh noise and music concrete.
