WHB - short for What’s Happening Brotha - is the debut release from Brooklyn resident Kellen303. Though out via Keysound, these five tracks are the sort of hybridised club tackle that could have surfaced on Fade To Mind or Escape From Nature. The likes of ‘Planet X’ and the title track bring together tropes from vogue, Jersey, ballroom, grime and much more, albeit in a manner that recalls the spacious eeriness of some 90s jungle. Electronic drums take prominence on several tracks here - ‘Big Shot’, for instance, is a relentless battering of 808s. Only the spooky ‘Spy Glass’ - imagine Slowie and Lamont’s ‘Ar Kid’ re-rubbed for the House of Labeija - and the spacey closing version of ‘Planet X’ see the percussion pull back.
