After a couple of releases with Barely Breaking Even, the sophomore LP from London beatsmith The Last Skeptik arrives via Thanks For Trying. While lyrically this is an LP about the grind of living in 21st-Century London and battling personal demons, This Is Where It Gets Good utilises a great many styles to get its point across. There is something about the record’s willingness to fuse grime, Dilla-style beats, neo-soul and more that suggests the ultimate theme of This Is Where It Gets Good is the ability of music to help one transcend personal struggle. Contains some high-grade features from the likes of Trim and Kojey Radical.
