KÖLSCH returns with the third in a series of albums focussing on his formative years. Following 1977 - the year of the Danish producer’s birth - and 1983, we arrive in 1989. A year of upheaval for Rune Reilly, namely due to the onset of puberty and the sadness brought on by his parents’ divorce, 1989 channels the turmoil of the time into a record of emotional techno. Despite containing more than one piece entitled ‘Grey’, 1989 is in fact a rich and colourful record in a manner that recalls DJ Koze and Moderat. Many tracks building to stirring climaxes - just listen to the Aurora-featuring ‘In Bottles’ and try not to be moved. The 24-piece Heritage Orchestra, under the direction of long-time collaborator Gregor Schwellenbach, add real weight to ‘Khairo’, ‘Liath’ and ‘Serji’.
