Once more around the block for Celebration, a band who now have a legitimate claim to being part of modern American indie-rock royalty. Their fifth LP was born from a time of strife - everything from midlife crises to loss of a parent to bathroom renovations if the press release is to be believed. Despite this, the band approach Wounded Healer with a confidence and joie de vivre befitting their name. Lead single ‘Freedom Ring’, for instance, is a triumphant slice of Jesus and Mary Chain-style alt-pop, with synths and guitars soaring almost as high as Katrina Ford’s glorious vocal. The album contains a cornucopia of guest musicians including Future Islands singer and fellow Baltimorean Samuel T. Herring.
