Given that 90s junglist Skanna has been remastering and re-pressing some of his old wares of late, it’s no surprise that 1992’s Intimidator EP has been given a going over. One of the producer’s best-loved drops, original copies fetch a pretty penny on the second-hand circuit. When heard in the context of the recent rave revivalism of Special Request, Daniel Avery et al, the four tracks of Intimidator stand out for an authority that has come to them with age. While the production style may not be the most sophisticated, Skanna’s ability to create hardcore tunes full of tension and paranoia has rarely been bettered. Old-skool weight to put the new-skool in their place.
