Off the wall sonic madness from Cold Spring, whose very own Justin Mitchell arranged for previously unreleased recordings from the Sun Ra archive to be reworked by Japanese noise legend Masami Akita (aka Merzbow). Discordant, frantic and full of wild eccentricity, these tracks paint a wider picture of cross-cultural convergence and the interweaving capabilities of perceived musical boundaries. Afro-futurist jazz from Chicago meets improvisational electronic mutations. We can see a fair few Sun Ra die-hards not being too into this, but anyone already acquainted with Merzbow’s work should dive in.
