Melbourne producer Andrew Wilson (A.R.T. Wilson, András) reactivates his Andras Fox moniker for his new label venture, House of Dad. The eponymous first EP for the label was recorded just there, at his dad’s house, and is an homage to his plumber father – also illustrated by the wooden toilet seat in a golden frame on the cover. Wilson welcomes us to his garage with contemplative sustained piano chords refuted by irregular percussive elements. The relaxed tempo is echoed on ‘Stereo Dunnies’ with its laid-back real drum break beat, water effects and flowing liquid synths and on the beat-less vocal synth ballade of ‘Roof Metal Corrosion’. The creaking 303s of ‘Water Diviner’ and the string- and Fender-Rhodes-infused bass drums of ‘Hard Working Man’ on the other hand radiate higher energy, making ‘House of Dad’ an all round affair.
