Two years after his 2013 debut on British indie label Double Denim Records, Birmingham-based musician Amateur Best resurfaces on UK imprint Brille with the syrupy Marzipan EP. The release marks a foretaste of his upcoming full-length The Gleaners, delivering entertaining dance pop: the title track’s synth parts bear resemblance to the joyful arrangements of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur, which Mangled founder Ray Mang tones down in favour of bongos on his remix. ‘Suitcase’ sees Amateur Best smoothly contemplating whiskey and toothpaste, infusing elements of dramatic saxophone and digital drum machine.
