Jamie XX enlists the help of Herbert, Tessela, John Talabot, Barnt and Special Request to remix Loud Places, his track featuring The XX member Romy from his debut LP In Colour. Spanish mastermind John Talbot strips the original of its sustained instrumentals and instead works with staccato-styled synths and fragmented percussion on his 'Loud Synths Reconstruction’, leaving Romy’s vocal line room to breathe, yet respecting the original’s crescendo dynamics in adding layers of synth patterns towards the end. Cologne producer Barnt follows a similar tactic in only introducing his prominent storyline of raw sounding hi-hats in the last third of his E-mix. London producer Tessela offers an even more radical makeover, turning the song into a restless techno number, relentlessly pitch-bending, cutting up and looping the vocals and thereby redefining their function as rhythmical, while Matthew Herbert’s ‘Louder Dub’ transforms its hymnal connotations into a beautiful, otherworldly nightmare and Paul Woolford closes with breakbeat vodoo.
