For his latest solo album, Erlend Øye, a former member of both Kings of Convenience and The Whitest Boy Alive, has transitioned from the Italian pop songs of La prima estate Bubbles to a more tropical sound. Legao was recorded with Icelandic reggae band Hjálmar who provide a blissed-out dub backing for Øye’s crooning vocals. Despite the melodies and backing singers, this an album tinged with moments of regret and unrequited love as on album highlight “Whistler”.
