Chicago duo Talker return to Karl O’Connor’s Downwards imprint with their first full-length for the label. Following a contribution to the Halha compilation and an EP for the Downwards sub-label D/N, Hari now fully reveals how well Jonathan ‘Stave’ Krohn and Karl Meier are actually suited to the catalogue. On the first half, mellow polytonal surfaces juxtapose subtler rhythms – before overdriven beats start pounding restlessly over eerie synth drones, and ‘Meniscus’ deploys spoken word lyrics distorted into inconceivability. Combining the most beautiful elements of ambient, techno, drone, industrial and noise, Talker create their own unique and utterly diverse sound.
