Fresh off two strong releases for Tri Angle, New Zealander FIS issues another excellent EP, this time for London’s Loopy. The inaugural release for the newly minted label, Speech Sprits kicks off with the title track, a typically crunchy bass hybrid that jerks and jounces under the weight of its hefty sub-bass. ‘Knecht’ is no less obtuse, mixing off-kilter hand drums with kitchen sink percussion. Kassem Mosse contributes a bouncy, dub-infused take of the lead cut, while Australian experimentalist Oren Ambarchi chips in a relatively straightforward remix crusted over with reverb and digital distortion.
