Australia-based experimental producer David Shea returns to Lawrence English’s Room 40 with a ceremonial full-length. Recorded over a period of five years around Melbourne, the highly conceptual album revolves around the idea of spiritual rituals centred on Buddhist and Taoist traditions which emphasize the immersion in the listening experience as the music’s ultimate purpose. Also influenced by musique concrete composers Luc Ferrari and Giacinto Selsi, Shea creates long, deeply engaging pieces of swelling ambient sounds, derived from a mixture of field recordings, electronic and acoustic instruments. Both Oren Ambarchi and Lawrence English make guest appearances on the album, adding to Shea’s mesmerising drone soundscapes.
