Columbia based producer Manuel Cortes delivers an album of woozy house numbers for Los Angeles label 100% Silk. Cortes specialises in creating a unique hazy ambience centred around deeply submerged bass and shimmering synth lines. His tracks are sparse but evocative: on ‘Cold City’ the heavily cushioned bassline backed by washes of synth conjures up images of neon-lit cityscapes. While the G-funk chords and video game sound effects on ‘Defiance’ immediately transport you to a virtual paradise.
