Australian-born, New York-based producer Lil Jabba is back with more twisted bass constructions, this time for True Panther Sounds. At the centre of his latest EP is the woozy title track, which sways unsteadily then lurches into a tempo upswing like a tipsy nocturnal streetwalker. Opening one-two ‘GroTTo AnTheM’ and ‘SKKiMM RiDDiM’ pair energetic, jungle-influenced rhythms with colourful video-game synths. ‘SPuR’ and ‘FLeXIN. (JaBBa’s CuT)’, on the other hand, hark back to the producer’s rugged footwork beginnings, particularly the latter’s chopped-up vocal samples.
