UK sound artist Chris Herbert finally resurfaces with the long-awaited follow up to his superb 2006 debut Mezzotint. Fortunately for the listener, Herbert’s sonic blend of field-recordings, ambient washes, drones and non-musical production touches has not aged a day in the eight-year interim. Stirring sub-bass propels ‘As Blue as Your Eyes Lover’ and ‘Zona’, while ‘Cinders’ and ‘Crest’ feature gorgeous wordless vocals and sweeping synths. The domestically sourced found-sounds on ‘Sea Holly’ and ‘Former Shoreline’ take on an oceanic quality, aided by Herbert’s melodic pads and swirling electronics.
