The UK-based techno producer Ø releases his latest EP on Belgian label Token Records. Phase combines rib-rattling techno workouts with a series of bizarre beatless scenes. ‘Out-last’ shudders like a creaking door or a ball falling down a flight of stairs, while ‘Leap Into The Deep’ is as subterranean as its title would suggest. ‘Burden of Proof’ and ‘Systems Theory’, on respective sides, throw down nightmarish synth patterns over sterling beats, and ‘Emergence (In A Psychological System)’ blends those two modes - deep and pulsating - perfectly.
