Sebastian Kramer, the masked producer known as Redshape, offers up another first-rate EP for Running Back. The titular Bonuz Beatz are retools of Redshape hits past, floor friendly versions of previously released fan favourites. Vol. 1 starts with a reworked version of ‘Dog Day’ called ‘Dogz’ that lays shuffling breaks and new-jack stabs over the dub-tech throb of the original. Kramer strips ‘Made Of Steel’ down to a skeletal DJ tool on ‘Zteel’ and the atmospheric ‘It’s In Rain’ becomes ‘Itz’, a neck-breaking percussion workout. ‘Finizh’, a sleek minimal revision of his acid-house epic ‘Unfinished Symmetry’, rounds out the set nicely.
