Florian Hecker returns to his spiritual home Editions Mego for ‘Articulação’, an album further exploring his recent experiments with digital manipulations of the human voice, this time in collaboration with the Iranian philosopher Reza Negarastani. The two compositions entitled ‘Hinge’ focus principally on intertwining layers of vocal samples, punctuating by subtle glitches, with mind-bending results. The distortion of neighbouring vocal tones and unrelenting intensity and drama of these cuts, though on the surface different from much of Hecker’s past work, nonetheless produces the same effect as electronic centrepiece ‘Modulator (… meaningless, affectless, out of nothing …)’.
