Following the first Afrobeat Airwaves instalment in 2009, ‘Afrobeat Airwaves 2’ turns up a similar treasure trove of James Brown-inspired funk and rare afrobeat recordings. Digging into the years 1974-1983, it’s a collection that captures the honesty and vibrancy of polyrhythmic sound, and turns up a cross section of established Ghanaian musicians and some unknown surprises. Spearheaded by Analog Africa’s Samy Ben Redjeb, his dedication to tracking and archiving such elusive African vinyl recordings makes this second instalment a must-have.
