Vintage Oakland jazz/funk label Black Jazz is honoured by none other than underground beat lord Theo Parrish on this new compilation. While last year, Gilles Peterson curated ‘Black Jazz Radio’, this year sees Parrish stepping up to the plate, pulling together his favourite cuts on the label from 1971-6 over twelve tracks. Featuring works from The Awakening, Gene Russell, Calvin Keys, Rudolph Johnson and Walter Bishop Jr, this is a whirlwind compilation of 70s-era jazz.
