Brighton post-punkers Squid send off 2023 with a fresh repress of their prior Covers EP on Warp. An exercise in the eclectic tastes that blend together into the group’s hard-to-pin-down sound, Squid traverses everything from haunting Americana to contemporary classical across these four tracks, leaving breadcrumb trails along the way. They turn Bill Callahan’s tour diaristic ‘America’ into a jovial honky tonk is brash, but their breath-taking run through Robbie Basho’s ‘Blue Crystal Fire’ really steals the show.
